I’m going to Samoa not MOA (Mall of Asia)!

It’s a different adventure hitting the ride under ATR-72 aircraft, the propeller type airplane with seating capacity of 60 pax.

In case you are not aware, there are two Samoan countries. One is the independent country Samoa or Western Samoa and the other is American Samoa, territory of United States. Apia is the capital city of Independent State of Samoa and the official languages are English and Samoan. It was under German Empire from 1900 to 1914, then colonized by New Zealand from 1914 to 1962 and gained independence in 1962.

Did you know Samoa is one of the first countries to welcome New Year due to its timezone.

I usually booked standard hotel room during my tour but this time I opted the Samoan traditional bungalow room. Feels like I am in the old days and they provided mosquito net. The breakfast is typical bread with butter jam and variety of fresh fruits.

Since I have limited time, I went for a self-walking tour from the hotel to city center of Apia. It is pretty much safe to walk and the locals are friendly.

The Immaculate Conception of Mary Cathedral is a Catholic Church in Apia. I thought the church is new, but it undergoes restoration due to the earthquake in 2009. It has a unique exterior color but unfortunately it was closed when I went for a visit.

Apia Clock Tower is a gift to Samoan people by the businessman and politician Ta’isi Olaf Frederick Nelson. The clock has been a national war memorial to commemorate the Samoan-born soldiers who fought in World War 1 & 2.

The roof of Government Building of Samoa is oval shape painted with brown color. The height of the building is 34 meters with 8 floors and completed in 1994.

Samoa Cultural Village is located in the city center of Apia on Beach Road. It offers unique experience especially for tourist like me who wants to try Fa’a Samoa or “The Samoan Way”. The staff are very hospitable and friendly that will make you feel at home. They are showing how strong their culture despite we are now in modern days. The entrance to the village is absolutely free.

They have a live presentation on how they are cooking their traditional food.

My Travel Diary Webseries Part 6: Christchurch, New Zealand to Nadi, Fiji https://blogs.jerichosplace.com/2019/05/25/my-travel-diary-webseries-part-6-christchurch-new-zealand-to-nadi-fiji/ Sat, 25 May 2019 18:17:08 +0000 http://jerichosplace.com/?p=4322 My half day tour in Christchurch has just finished and I requested our tour guide to drop me off at Christchurch International Airport to catch my flight to Nadi, Fiji.

Fiji is an independent island country and located around 2,595 km north of New Zealand. Fiji’s official language are English, Fiji Hindi, Fijian and official currency is Fiji Dollar.

I received warm hospitality from Fiji Airways staff and I almost got drunk on board due to their unlimited red wine serving.

Tokatoka Resort is the hotel that I booked during my 2 day stay in Fiji. It’s just opposite the airport, so I just simply walk while pulling my luggage. Time to take my dinner and let us try their traditional food made of fish with coconut milk and veggies.

I am surprised why Fijian men are wearing skirt instead of jeans. 38% of Fiji’s population were from Indian descent due to the indentured labourer imported from India to work on Fiji sugarcane industry between 1879 to 1916.

After lunch, our guide gave us free time to explore the city by our own. I decided to stroll around the city, it is safe to walk alone but extra precaution should be exercised.

Ratu Sukana Park is named after the founder of Fiji, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna. It is a public park located in Suva City Centre and there is waterfront and harbour. The temperature is little bit humid due to the island is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean.

The Webseries of a Trash Talker https://blogs.jerichosplace.com/2019/05/03/the-webseries-of-a-trash-talker/ https://blogs.jerichosplace.com/2019/05/03/the-webseries-of-a-trash-talker/#comments Fri, 03 May 2019 16:11:21 +0000 http://jerichosplace.com/?p=3725 Is your colleague creating a nasty tidbit trash talk about you and your team when you are outside of the room or when you are taking your comfort time, beware he might be one of the snakes spoiling your reputation inside your office!

This is disturbing to find-out that one of your trusted colleagues is the one back fighting when you are away, not only to you but with the whole team. We will call this person an Ass Ho who micro-manage each one of you in your office by giving them little nasty trash talk of information to offend you.

Why a person is doing trash talk to his colleagues, who are these people doing this kind of activity and what they will gain of ruining the reputation of a team mate?

Trash talk is a nasty way of engaging to your opponents at his/her back in an office or a competitive atmosphere, an action of putting someone down with unkind word during his/her absence in an office or room. It is a bad way of building up confidence by ruining the reputation of your colleagues. The trash talk originated in online gaming where they used the different plethora of garbage words, some are racial slurs and others are below the belt words to intimidate the opponents.

3 Psychological Factors on Why a Person Creates a Trash Talk Behind:

1. Boast an ego to dominate a team – the person wants to prove to the management that he/she is ONLY the one capable of doing things. He/she will create snake pit to create little nasty talks to each and everyone to ruin his/her colleague reputation so that at time he/she is on vacation the work will be destabilized to prove that his/her presence is important. Another thing, a mouth trasher hides a tendency of receiving bribes, so he/she needs to ruin the reputation of his/ her colleague to ensure of his/her dominance and kept things a secret.

2. Feeling of insecurity towards a colleague- a feeling of wanting to have more praises is to hide your insecurities towards your colleague through intimidation. This is to disappoint your colleague going to any member of management or appearing to his/her office every time. He/she will inject a tidbit of sarcastic or slur words to wipe-out the presence of his/her colleague whenever has a chance to be near with the management team.

3. Unexpressed anger or hate over the success of a colleague- an emotion that are not expressed openly leads to trash talk behind about your colleague. A mouth trasher when a particular colleague is in front of him/her behaves and creates praises about the goodness and contribution to a team but when he/she is away then his/her bad mouth starts to operate. This is a feeling of jealousy and envy toward the success of other people.

Below are the situations when a mouth trasher injects nasty tidbits trash talks towards his/her colleague. The radar of mouth trasher operates on different scenarios that you will not be aware since he/she is targeting to pull down anyone to creates destabilization and alarming situations in a team.

As to continue the activities of Ass Ho that we mentioned above, these are some of the common actions he/she is doing in a day:

1. Suspicious on any activity, achievement, attainment and ownership such as mobile, equipment and properties of his/ her colleague.

2. Accusing another colleague of being lazy then spreading it to others that he/ she requires to move or work faster as to pretend that he/she is intellectual and above anyone else.

3. Showing arrogance with his/her juniors by questioning their activities, gestures and movements.

4. Releasing of a half-baked information on any issue of access cards, tardiness and going home early of a colleague even without proper investigation.

5. Instructing a member of a team not to take any load from anyone including his/ her seniors to destabilize the function of another colleague.

The bad mouth of an Ass Ho creates division in a team, every time the other colleague went-out of their office then a mouth trasher starts to talk counting the time of the person for not being in the office. This kind of person must be counselled or eliminated in a team straight-away. The atmosphere this person creates is likely having a knife or a dagger at the back that ready to stab you anytime soon. This mouth trasher can ruin his/her reputation on the process and ruining the camaraderie of the members in a team.

Request your open advice to a mouth trasher; do you want to keep, avoid or set-aside?

How to Snoop a Snake in Your Team, A Webseries 1 of a Trash Talker ! https://blogs.jerichosplace.com/2019/05/01/how-to-snoop-a-snake-in-your-team-a-webseries-1-of-a-thrash-talker/ Wed, 01 May 2019 16:32:37 +0000 http://jerichosplace.com/?p=3570 Is your colleague creating a nasty tidbit trash talk about you and your team when you are outside the room or when your taking your comfort time, beware he might be one of the snakes spoiling your reputation inside your office!

This is disturbing to find-out that one of your trusted colleagues is the one back fighting when you are away, not only to you but with the whole team. We will call this person an Ass Ho who micro-manage each and everyone of you in your office by giving them little nasty trash talk of information to offend you.
