USS Arizona Bell

We watch a 23-minute documentary film inside the Pearl Harbor Memorial Theater, that includes archival footage from the attack. After watching the film, we take a boat ride around the harbor to visit USS Arizona Memorial. It is the resting place of 1,102 of the 1,177 sailors and marines killed during the Japanese surprise attack.

My Travel Diary Webseries Part 8: Apia, Samoa to Honolulu, Hawaii, USA https://blogs.jerichosplace.com/2019/05/27/my-travel-diary-webseries-part-8-apia-samoa-to-honolulu-hawaii-usa/ Mon, 27 May 2019 19:25:49 +0000 http://jerichosplace.com/?p=4386 Samoa is ahead by 23 hours of Hawaii, but its only 5 hours and 30 minutes by flight. It seems I am flying back to yesterday’s date just to visit the Aloha State of Hawaii. Hawaii is the 50th state of the United States of America. Hawaii is the only state located outside the continent of North America.

I arrived midnight in Honolulu and waited for the airport transfer service. Surprisingly, when I arrived at Holiday Surf Hotel there is no staff available. I tried to call their numbers, but nobody is answering. I decided to search nearby hostel to stay temporarily.

Let’s discover the Cultural Tour of Honolulu or the Red Line of Waikiki Trolley Hop-On Hop-Off, the fun way to see Hawaii! Ticket is available online at https://waikikitrolley.com or you can purchase directly at the driver.

The Hawaiian word Waikiki means “spouting water”. Waikiki Beach is popular for surfers and majority of the hotels, resorts, shops, restaurants and bars are located in the area. Waikiki is just a playground for Hawaiian royalty in 1800 but today various tourist around the world are visiting and enjoying the place.

Did you know that Hawaii has a Queen before? Her name is Queen Lydia Liliuokalani Paki, the first and last queen regnant sovereign monarch of The Kingdom of Hawaii. Her monarchy was overthrown on January 17, 1893 by the pro-Americans.

Iolani Palace is located behind the Hawaii State Capitol. Iolani Palace was built in 1882 by King Kalakaua and served as official royal residence until the last monarch. Online ticket booking is available at https://fareharbor.com/iolanipalace/ if you are interested to explore inside the palace.

You want to live longer, take a dose of wine! https://blogs.jerichosplace.com/2019/04/30/you-want-to-live-longer-take-a-dose-of-wine/ Tue, 30 Apr 2019 17:26:00 +0000 http://jerichosplace.com/?p=3547 Wine is made from fermented grapes and comes with different variety like red wine, white wine, fruit wine, etc. Wine is always quoted that it is good for the heart, but moderate consumption must be observed.

Countries like United States, Canada, Australia, France, Italy, Argentina, Spain and South Africa has become wine tourist destination. Most their wineries offer scenic vineyard views, wine tasting and tour of the vineyards and cellar.

While touring in Cape Town I had a chance to visit on one of their famous wineries. Zevenwacht Wine Estate is located in Stellenbosch Wine Route, Cape Town, South Africa. It is around 25 minutes away from the city center and Cape Town International Airport. The name Zevenwacht derived from Dutch literally means Seven Expectations. Zevenwacht is not only leader in wine tourism, but also the first wine estates to offer hotel accommodation, restaurant and conference facility.
