When we are near to the statue, we cannot see anything because of full fog. The photographs seemed only showing the shadow of the face of Christ, but one twist of the angle redeemed the utmost beauty of the surroundings… the clouds went away. It is showing now the perfect statue of the Christ the Redeemer where we stand …miracles do happen.

It is everyone’s dream to visit the famous “Christ the Redeemer” located at the summit of Corcovado Mountain, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After my short tour in Sao Paulo, I flew all the way to Rio de Janeiro for 1.5 hours and slept overnight. The following day, I joined Rio de Janeiro city tour in the morning which I will share you the story on my next post.

After taking our lunch, we headed to the Cosme de Velho station. We hopped on the cog train and ride through the Tijuca Rainforest in order to reach the top of Corcovado Mountain. The train departs every 20 to 30 minutes depending on the season and the ticket cost R$56,00 during low season and R$68,00 during high season which includes round trip and entrance to Christ the Redeemer. Inside the terminal, different flags are being displayed and Philippine flag is one of them.

Luckily, I was seated near the window and took different photos on the surroundings. After 20 minutes, we reach the terminal and we need to ride the escalator to reach finally the statue.

Just a brief history, Christ the Redeemer stands 98 feet tall and arms spanning 92 feet, weighing 635 metric tons. The statue is the largest Art Deco-style sculpture in the world, it is listed as one of the New7Wonders of the World in 2007. It was designed by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian Engineer Heitor da Silva Costa with French Engineer Albert Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida designed the face of the statue. The statue was completed on October 12, 1931 and in 1980, Pope John Paul II made a visit. In the year 2002 elevators has been installed, making the tourists more comfortable rather than climbing more than 200 steps just to reach the top.

Our tour guide allowed us 45 minutes to spend at the top of the mountain, taking lots and lots of photos at the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue and enjoying views over Rio de Janeiro and its surroundings.

I say a little prayer and give thanks to God for the wonderful journey that he has given me. Please pass this story if you believe in miracle!
