Book now at Klook! https://blogs.jerichosplace.com/2020/01/22/book-now-at-klook/ Wed, 22 Jan 2020 13:04:25 +0000 http://jerichosplace.com/?p=5027 Klook offers activities at lower prices than traditional travel firms or tour operators, it works here directly with attraction managers and owners. Product localization is key in the service industry. The local sourcing team will feedback what the existing preferences and trends are and accommodate accordingly. Hiring local is key to their strategy and not enough to be able to speak the language, but to fully understand local habits. That way, it doesn’t involve agents or other aggregators who, once adding in their commission, push prices up for travelers.

The company claims to have grown its userbase — which it counts as the total reach for its website, mobile apps, WeChat and other touch points — from 200,000 to 500,000 over the same period. It currently includes more than 1,200 activities across 24 destinations in Asia, that’s up from around 1,000 earlier this year. It didn’t say how many bookings or customers it has, but that it “serves thousands of travelers a day.”

The company was founded in September 2014 with the idea of helping travelers and tourists find things to do across Asia. Fah said that Greater China accounts for around one-third of its user base, with Southeast Asia also around the same figure. While Asia is a popular destination for tourists worldwide, Klook is particularly focused on unlocking the potential of Asian travelers.

Klook Travel

“We’re a pan-Asia platform that serves both Asian destinations and Asian travelers,” he explained to TechCrunch in an interview. “The rising middle class in Asia make lots of inter-regional travel.” A Hong Kong-based company that sells travel activities across Asia, has announced a $5 million Series A round led by US-Sino investment fund Matrix Partners. China Growth Capital and Francis Leung, chairman of CVC Capital, also took part. Klook raised a $1.5 million seed round in April, and co-founder Eric Gnock Fah told TechCrunch that this round was over-subscribed thanks to impressive growth.

This new funding will go towards growing the destinations and activities on the Klook platform, and further developing its technology. The company also plans to begin spending money on marketing, having relied on partnership deals and word-of-mouth for visibility thus far. Part of that focus will see it open an office in Singapore to increase its focus on Southeast Asia.

Klook may also expand its physical presence into other local markets further down the line, Fah said. The startup is also welcoming a pair of new strategy advisors who could help open doors. Wilfred Fan is managing director of Agoda and head of its business operations in North Asia, while Shuren Hu is a former vice chairman of the planning and financial department of the China National Tourism Administration.

If you’re wondering which cities are hot in Asia — Fah said Hong Kong is Klook’s top choice for visitors, followed by Singapore and Bangkok. The “Hikikomori” of Japan and the “Tambay” of Philippines, What is the Difference? https://blogs.jerichosplace.com/2019/05/23/the-hikikomori-of-japan-and-the-tambay-of-philippines-what-is-the-difference/ Thu, 23 May 2019 14:30:29 +0000 http://jerichosplace.com/?p=4293 The “Hikikomori” of Japan, First Webseries of “Tambay and Hikikomori”

Can you imagine how organize and efficient Japan on data gathering by establishing statistics about their “Hikikomori” but in the Philippines we may have little data on Tambay scattered through-out the streets of the country. Who are these “Hikikomori” of Japan and who are the “Tambay” of Philippines? Let’s find-out by exploring the streets of Japan and Philippines.

As per NHK Report, Hikikomori is defined by Japan’s Health Ministry as a social lifestyle in which “a person does not go to work or school, rarely interacts with people other than their family members and has been isolated or a housebound for a period of six months and longer”. They are usually adolescent males who have an abnormal avoidance of social contact.

According to latest survey conducted last December 2018, there is estimated 541,000 Hikikomori with ages ranging from 15 to 39 years old. But there more on 40 to 64 years old range with estimated number of 613,000 people. It means that through-out Japan that there are an estimated number of 1,154,000 Hikikomori living with their families far from social contact.

These data are alarming according to the Health Department of Japan as they are dependent on the income of their aging parents who are now at the stage of 85 years old. Their concern is more of who will take care for these Hikikomori considering that they are aging as well as their parents.

The Evolution of “Tambay” of Philippines, Second Webseries of “Tambay and Hikikomori”

Japan has the most care for their “Hikikomori” by looking their status as a social norm, securing their welfare is the most anticipated action by Japanese Government. But Philippines has different way of treatment for “Tambay” since historically Filipinos are always deprived by opportunities. Who are these people called “Tambay”, does the Philippine Statistics Authority have data on “Tambay” through the country? What are their usual activities on daily basis?

Let’s do “tokhang” (knock on the door) by exploring the street of Philippines to find-out the status of “Tambay”. Is “Tambay” a lifestyle culture also of Philippines same as “Hikikomori” of Japan or they are threat to the security of the country?

The “Tambay” term usually coined as “Taombahay” or housebound same as “Hikikomori” who choose not to work or lost the motivation to find work. They should be inside the house but since Philippines has temperate climate so the side of street or small pathways become their hiding place.

But “Tambay” grew massively in numbers that the Philippine Government lost track of their statistics. It should be a lifestyle for being “tambay”, but they grow in numbers that they flooded on every street of Philippines that became threat to the Philippine Society.

The evolution of “Tambay” started during the Spanish Era where there is no opportunity given to the Filipinos in terms of education and job. They end-up being farmers but without progress due to different calamities being experienced by Filipinos so some of them became demotivated and loss their self-esteem then eventually their cultural identity since Spain occupied Philippines for around 333 years. Most of the male adolescent spent time in “Batis” or creek and sometimes in “Lalao” (muddy area underneath the mangrove trees) to kill time by doing fishing or hunting “baboy ramo” or wild boar. At that time, they have no education since they are not belonged to “Peninsularis or Insulares” or having a Spanish Blood who have opportunity for education and job at that time. As the number of “Tambay” grew bigger through-out the decades since their social contact is usually on the side of the creek or river then they became threat to society so they build-up the group called “Tulisan” who robbed communities and sea pirates or “Piratang Dagat” who robbed other fishermen.

The Resolution on “Tambay” of Philippines, Third Webseries of “Tambay and Hikikomori”

The “Tulisan” are the robberies who stole sacks of palay, chicken, cows and carabaos then sell it to the other town market or “Mercado”. Their numbers are around 30 to 50 adolescent males who used “gulok” or “itak” (big knife) when they robbed small villages. But the number of “Piratang Dagat” is lesser compared with “Tulisan”.

Through-out the history of Philippines, once they become “Tambay” then become massive in numbers, there is certain kind of criminal tendency that they will commit to the society. As with the recent hit by “Oplan Tokhang” targeting different group of drug dealers and other criminal elements, it is the “Tambay” who are most affected since most of them are always on the street. There must be a resolution curving the number of “Tambay”.

The Philippine Government specifically the Philippine Statistics Authority and Department of Labor to declassify who are the legitimate to use the title fisherman, farmer, carpenter, laborer, jeep/tricycle/tuktuk driver and construction worker. The use of the title for the said jobs must comply with a requirement by being employed with regular compensation from a company otherwise they will tick the mark “Tambay” including those freelancers working on the same job. The priority is to monitor the statistics of “Tambay” so that they will be given subsidy with financial and technical assistance for the intention of being hired or employed by the company. If within one year of getting assistance from government but still they are not employed, then automatically they will be called to undergo military training. This is to eliminate the tendency of being part of drug dealing or criminal elements. The Philippine Government must be aware that there is a last sector of Society called “Tambay” that must be given a glance same as “Hikikomori” of Japan.

Budots Dance of Bong Revilla, an Open Letter! https://blogs.jerichosplace.com/2019/05/19/budots-dance-of-bong-revilla-an-open-letter/ Sun, 19 May 2019 14:00:49 +0000 http://jerichosplace.com/?p=4171 Please overhaul the election campaign process as it is still on feudal system where the “haciendero and haciendera” take the lead. Those who want to run for any candidacy must file their certificate on easy-fillable format, take the suggestion below so that the COMELEC and the taong bayan (countrymen) can easily analyze the candidate not only through their mouth by means of speeches but their background and agenda of governance.

Suggestions of most netizens, there must be a template on the speech and flyers for all the candidates when they are appearing on televisions, radio, advertisement, public forum and assembly. It must not be all the singing, dancing and the handsome most yelled by the people…all forms of entertainment must end during election campaign. Those who are familiar with the template for those applying visa abroad must have almost same questionnaires for candidates running for any position in government.

The template of speech and flyers must be in this format that every audience can analyze who are these candidates standing in front of them:

  1. Notarized amount of money in the bank, personal asset, properties and debt or loan of the running candidates.
  2. Pending cases and conviction, enumerate please.
  3. Controversial action committed as individual, enumerate and declared please (e.g involve in drug addiction, padrino, protecting illegal loggers and drug dealers, street fight and argument with someone on the street, calling and influencing custom to release items not related to his/her own, cuddling endanger species, advocate quarrying and illegal mining).

Memes of Philippine Election 2019 https://blogs.jerichosplace.com/2019/05/18/memes-of-philippine-election-2019/ Sat, 18 May 2019 11:35:28 +0000 http://jerichosplace.com/?p=4159 The Filipino humor never ends as it is always expected even in critical situation of the country or even on the last 13th of May 2019 election. We witnessed the funny side of Filipinos through “memes” in different campaign scenario of Philippine Election expressed in social media. Some of the memes are funny but others are totally sarcastic and below the belt.

Most of the memes are deformed faces to look like monster, monkey or any popular caricature but some are funny, bully and sarcastic lines featuring the person itself. They add only bubbles of conversation or statement where to deliver their punchlines.

As we analyzed all the memes of election tackle deeply on the desperation of Filipinos on certain aspect of governance. It is not maybe targeting the individual person on the meme but the activity of that person that made him the target of the meme. Filipinos put humor to lighten-up the situation so that another person intended for the meme cannot relate on what they want to say directly (sometimes not good). It is sure that it is not only Filipinos doing the meme but other culture with different context.

The behavior of Filipinos for creating meme is inserting “patama” to the funny lines due to cultural inferiority suffered mostly by those colonized country. This inferiority is still embedded in the Filipino blood until today as manifested in “patama” or “pag-irap (make face)”. This is the condition where the person cannot express themselves openly as they resorted to indirect statement. This is a form of revenge on another person’s statement or action.

The “Patama” or “Pag-irap” is not normal on other culture as they don’t understand this behavior. Other culture requires to be confronted directly or upfront so that they can understand the situation. Then, they will set-up corrective action right there and then. Most Filipinos are different as they are afraid to show themselves or go direct on their statement as to avoid creating argument, maybe it is time to correct this behavior. It does not mean that when you argue or raise a point requires hysterical, physical attack or violence, you can raise your point calmly in a peaceful manner.

Show your lighter side through memes but stop “patama” as it does not help at all!
